Our branch of practice and specialist committees negotiate nationally, hold annual conferences and report to BMA council.
Our professional activities and special interest committees promote excellence on ethical, scientific, research, educational and international matters.
Consultants, juniors and SAS doctors each have regional committees. In England, BMA members sit on Regional Councils.
Over 200 local BMA Divisions across the UK, allow for members to debate local matters with their local peers.
GPs also have local representation by Local Medical Committees (LMCs).
All hospital doctors are represented locally by Local Negotiating Committees (LNCs).
We stand up for doctors both individually and collectively on a wide variety of employment issues and, since the inception of the NHS, we have been formally recognised for collective bargaining purposes within national negotiating machinery and by individual employers at local level.
Through research and publishing we lead debate on key ethical, scientific and public health matters and award grants to encourage individual research in medicine.
We also work with a number of other professional bodies on issues which we, our members, or their patients have a legitimate interest.
We are for doctors, because we are doctors.
Our insight and understanding helps us defend your interests when it matters most and fight hard to champion the profession.
We seek to guide doctors throughout all stages of their career - from medical school to retirement - through cultural shifts, technological advancements and economic pressures, we uphold and promote your interests in the context of continual evolution.
We are a democratic and open organisation. We ensure your collective voice is heard and shapes the future agenda of health for the nation.
We are the British Medical Association – for doctors, for health.
